The Civil Society Declaration on World Malaria Day 2026
Malaria is not where it was twenty years ago. Since 2000, the world has prevented billions of cases and millions of deaths—proof that malaria can be prevented and defeated. Yet progress remains fragile. In 2024 alone, more than 600,000 people still died from malaria, most of them African children, while global cases rose again to 282 million, with Africa carrying the greatest burden.
This World Malaria Day 2026, civil society organizations and communities are raising one clear message: Now We Can. Now We Must — Place Communities at the Center.
As a joining partner to this declaration, Hope For Future Generations Ghana (HFFG) stands with civil society and community voices in calling for stronger national leadership, increased domestic investment, timely delivery of Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 (GC8) commitments, and urgent action to protect the effectiveness of malaria treatment in the face of growing drug resistance.
We call on governments, donors, and all stakeholders to make malaria visible at the highest political level, sustain investments, strengthen multilateral mechanisms, and ensure that no one is left behind.
We have the tools.
We have the knowledge.
We have the evidence of what works.
Now We Can. Now We Must.
